Art Retreats in Oaxaca and Mexico City, Mexico.

Join Mija Matriz and Jon Labrousse for life enriching cultural tours and art workshops in beautiful Oaxaca de Juarez. We’ll explore this magical city rich in culture with world renowned artisans, delicious food, ancient ruins, vibrant markets,  beautiful people, and lovely colonial architecture.

And in April 2027, we’ll be in awe inspiring Mexico City, with the wizard of wild and wonderful art, Michael deMeng. Mexico City is an extraordinary cultural mecca not to be missed .

Our time in these amazing places will delight your senses, ignite your creativity and feed your spirit.

In October 2026, join Michael deMeng and Mija & Jon for a fantastic assemblage art workshop during Dia de los Muertos, one of the most beloved celebrations in all of Mexico. We’ll enjoy the beautiful festivities surrounding this blessed holiday and make our own mixed media art piece inspired by this mystical time of year, when the veil is thin. Follow the link for all the details.

In December, 2026, join us for a holiday celebration in Oaxaca, Mexico like no other. La Noche de Rábanos has been happening every December 23rd in Oaxaca since 1897! It’s about time for you to experience it in person! In addtion to enjoying the Christmas celebrations and decorations that are unique to Oaxaca City, we’ll carve a collective radish masterpiece of our own. This is a holiday experience you don’t want to miss.

In January, 2027, join Leighanna Light and Orly Avineri for a deep dive into the world of visual languages. January is the perfect time to escape the winter blues in favor of Oaxaca’s warm weather in the mid-70s. We’ll explore many ways Oaxaqueño artists tell stories, from printmaking, to textiles, to ceramic sculpture, to petroglyphs carved into ancient ruins which will then inspire our creation of text and textures in the studio.

In April, 2027, join Michael deMeng in Mexico City for a Journey to the Land of Freaky Toys! Mexico City is  a paradise for artists, dreamers, and curious explorers. Museums, murals, sculptures, music, parks, architecture, street art, markets, lucha libre arenas, and enough visual inspiration to fill a dozen sketchbooks. Our excursions will lean toward the strange, the playful, and the mysterious. Toys will be a recurring theme throughout our adventure, culminating in a visit to the legendary Isla de las Muñecas—the Island of the Dolls.
